6.             final block

Choose a selection of medium to dark fabrics for the star and a beige or tan fabric for the background.  The colored fabrics can be print or tone-on-tone.

1.  From the background fabric, cut eight 2 1/2 inch squares and four 3 1/4 inch squares.

Cut each of the 3 1/4 inch squares diagonally to form 8 triangles.

2.  From the scraps, cut nine 2 1/2 inch squares from different fabrics.

3.  Also from the scraps, cut four 3 1/4 inch squares from different fabrics.

Cut each of the 3 1/4 inch squares diagonally to form 8 triangles.

4.  With right sides together, sew each of the dark to medium triangles to a beige triangle along the long side of the triangle using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.  You should end up with eight half-square triangle sets.  Press seams to the dark sides.  Trim blocks to 2 1/2 inches square.

5.  Sew the squares into five rows and then assemble these five rows into a finished block.  Refer to graphics 5 & 6 for placement.  Remember to pin the rows together well at the seams to ensure your corners match up as closely as possible.

Ta-Da!!!  Wasn't that easy?
