Choose 6 different coordinating Debbie Mumm fabrics...
3 darker shades and 3 lighter shades.

Also choose a matching off-white fabric for the center and a red for the           heart.  (The heart is optional... for those of you who like to appliqué)

1.  From the off-white fabric, cut one 2 1/2 inch square.
From the six coordinating fabrics, cut 2 1/2 inch strips at least 15 inches long.

2.  Sew a light shade strip to one side of the off-white square.  Trim strip even with the square.  Press the seam to the light shade.  Sew the remaining strip of the same light shade fabric to the long side of the pair of squares.  Press to the longer strip.

3.  Continue adding strips in this manner, using a darker shade for the next adjacent sides, repeating light print strips on the light sides and dark print strips on the dark sides until there are three strips on each side of the muslin square.

4.  As an option... Appliqué an appropriate size heart, using red Debbie Mumm print fabric, in the center of the off-white square.  You may use any method of appliqué you wish.  If you don't do the "A" word, leave the center square blank.

Your completed unfinished block will measure 14 1/2 inches.
14 inches after sewn into a quilt!
